18th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser and Silent Auction was on August 26, 2014 with approximately one hundred players from our Corporate Members and certified Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) across the region participating at the Golf Club at Newcastle - China Creek Course.

From all fundraising activities, a total of $14,530 was raised. All proceeds support the Northwest Mountain MSDC Scholarship Fund that allow MBEs to attend the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington Minority Business Executive Program and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University, provides selected MBEs the opportunity to attend the Council's several networking and business conferences, as well as the National Minority Supplier Development Council's National Conference. Over the last five years - the Scholarship Fund has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to MBEs.

"The Scholarship Fundraiser enables us to help all of our stakeholders. They'll be able to leverage the opportunity to have fun and network," said Fernando Martinez, President and CEO of Northwest Mountain MSDC. "Our MBEs win, our corporate members benefit from the opportunity to work with well-educated and well-trained MBEs, and we benefit because we manage the process of engagement," Martinez said.

Popular this year was the Hit the Green contest along with the Putting and Chipping, Long Drive and Hole-in-One contests that came with prizes and a raffle drawing. Tournament results were as followed: Greater China Industries, Inc. came in 1st place, REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) came in 2nd place, and Trio Native American Enterprises came in 3rd place. "A bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at work, but a good day on the golf course is even better," said Mel Cutter with Greater China Industries, Inc. after their team placed 1st overall in the tournament.

Martinez closed out the evening by thanking participants for their continued support in the Council's mission of identifying and developing education and business opportunities for Minority Business Enterprises, Corporations, and Public Agencies that result in stakeholder value.
