About the Awards
The Northwest Mountain MSDC Awards Program promotes supplier diversity leadership and advocacy by recognizing the outstanding achievements of corporate/public agency members, certified Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), and supplier diversity advocates engaged in minority supplier development in the Northwest Mountain Region. The program supports the Council’s mission: foster an environment that creates opportunity and build economic value.
Leadership Awards are presented annually to a national corporate member, a regional corporate member, a public agency member* and four certified MBEs (one from each MBE class). All factors of business are considered for Leadership Awards, in addition to minority supplier development, and supplier diversity programming and advocacy.
Advocacy Awards pay tribute to individual contributions to the advancement of minority businesses and communities, named after Robert L. Ryan, one of the Council’s first corporate volunteers, and John A. Gilmore, one of the Council’s first certified MBEs, whose commitment and dedication have contributed to the growth of the Northwest Mountain MSDC. In 2017, the Advocacy Award for the public agency category was renamed after Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney, co-founder of the Washington State Migrant Child Care Centers, former member of the Washington House of Representatives and an advocate for underserved communities.
* Higher learning institutions are included in the public agency category.
