On behalf of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), you are invited to attend the 2017 DistribuTECH Conference. This is a huge event for suppliers wanting to be a part of smart grid, distributed energy and advanced technologies for utilities. The event will be held at the San Diego Convention Center on January 31-February 2, 2017.

The conference will include a tradeshow and a vast array of training and workshops, many of which are being hosted by PG&E Smart Grid team members. We are encouraging our community-based organizations (CBO) and Diverse Business Enterprise (DBE) partners to attend. If you are not able to attend, please forward to DBEs in your network.

Last year was record breaking for the DistribuTECH conference with over 11,300 professionals from utilities, technology companies and service providers in attendance. Artwork project description

Due to sight lines and the future trail activity, the most significant opportunity at the OMFE is its perimeter fence, particularly on the facility's western edge. The OMFE's design/build contractor will work with the selected artist to develop the supporting structure for this perimeter fence and will fabricate and install that structure and concrete base.

Summary

The Sound Transit Art Program (STart) is developing a major artwork to screen the perimeter of a planned train yard in Bellevue, Washington, otherwise known as the Sound Transit Operations and Maintenance Facility: East (OMFE). STart is seeking a professional artist who demonstrates an interest in, and has past experience developing, lineal artwork. The artwork response is anticipated to be fabricated largely in metal. Submission requirements for this art opportunity are detailed below.

OMFE project summary

Sound Transit, based in Seattle, Washington, is in the design and construction phase for Link light rail corridors north, south and east of Seattle. The agency is building a network of light rail, commuter rail and bus rapid transit to serve the greater Puget Sound metropolitan area, including cities in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties.

To care for the additional 90 light rail vehicles that will be added to the fleet when those light rail extensions open, Sound Transit is building a second train yard that will be in Bellevue, Washington. The OMFE will be a nearly 25-acre, rectangular switching yard, with maintenance and operations buildings clustered in its center. The south and east edges of the facility are being designed to accommodate future "transit-oriented development" projects, while the north and west sides of the facility will abut a bicycle/pedestrian trail and protected wetlands.

Figure 1: Schematic plan of the OMFE showing the perimeter fence locations in black. The identified art opportunity is along the western edge of the site, at the top of the schematic. (Click the photo to see a larger view.)

MBE to MBE Business Awards at the 2016 Annual Conference

  • University of Washington | HUB South Ballroom

During our 2016 Annual Conference on December 6, 2016, to be held at the University of Washington, the Council will be awarding two MBE Business Awards.  The Council will present performance awards in two categories: MBE-to-MBE Spend Award; and, MBE Inclusion Award.

  • MBE-to-MBE Spend Award:  Awarded to the Northwest Mountain MSDC certified MBE based on overall percentage of MBE spend with peer Northwest Mountain MSDC Certified MBEs in 2016 against total revenue.
  • MBE Inclusion Award:  Awarded to the Northwest Mountain MSDC Certified MBE with the deepest pool of Council Peer MBE suppliers.   Recognizing that a firm's size will affect overall percentage of spend, this award is measured by the number of Council Certified MBEs with whom you transacted business in 2016.

MBEs may submit completed Self-Nomination Workbooks directly to Fernando Martinez 12:00pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2016.  For questions, please contact Fernando  Martinez at (253) 243-6959 or directly via email at Fmartinez@nwmtnmsdc.org
